The Monarch, 2021 | The Monarch was created by patterning and cutting out water color paper, featuring built in metal wiring on the back side of each wing to be comfortably worn around the head, and hidden beneath hair. Ultimately, giving the illusion of floating wings on the face. The designs on the mask were created using multiple materials being: gouache, graphite, ink, rhinestones, and eyeshadow. With this piece I wanted to capture the elegance and regality of The Monarch butterfly.
